Cheraton Olympus – after three weeks under saddle
After achieving tremendous success with Kirreway Rialto and True Blue, we were determined to ensure their lines were retained through Blue Label. Importantly, we supported the continuation of their lineage with a strong group of fillies. The time came to search for an outside bloodline for the stud, which satisfied our strict requirements. After many years of exploring the bloodlines across Australia, we made the decision to use arguably the most successful and consistent sire of show ponies and horses in the UK – Kilvington Scoundrel.
Scoundrel has been crowned the Kellythorpe Stud sire of the year at HOYS since its inception in 2012. He has an impressive pedigree and has proven to be a potent sire of exceptional stock.
We selected our state champion and royal winning mare Cheraton Work of Art (AI UK) as the mare whom we felt best suited Scoundrel. Work of Art is by the great Fairley Rembrandt (UK) and out of the top performing Galloway mare Falconhurst Animation.
Work of Art certainly enjoyed a successful career in Queensland with the Quirk family, including winning at state level under saddle. Prior to her career change, Work of Art was campaigned at Melbourne Royal and won a large in hand class. She also went on to claim Top 10 in a competitive EV HOTY competition that year.
We could not have been happier with the outcome – a son! A beautiful, rich bay colt foal who had a particular look about him seen in many of Scoundrel’s foals. His legs floated across the ground with absolute ease. The future was certainly exciting.
Since Scoundrel’s passing in 2016, we know Olympus is one of only a couple of sons left worldwide. We are excited to stand him to a very small number of mares each season. So far, he has proven his dominance with his progeny, displaying the characteristic way of going representative of the Scoundrel lines – movement, beauty and grace across the ground.
Pictured below is Olympus’s 2018 filly foal – out of a full sister to three state title winners.
Due to time constraints, we have only bred a couple of foals to Olympus. The foals produced so far are certainly stamped with that same way of going. It will certainly be an exciting time ahead when one day, we can campaign Olympus himself in hand and under saddle.
In 2019, Olympus produced a spectacular filly foal out of Cheraton Couture (pictured below). Judging by what Olympus has produced so far, we are very excited about the cross to True Blue and Blue Label mares.
We do have a small amount of frozen semen available to select mares.
If you are interested in using Olympus, he is offered at stud via frozen or chilled semen.
